How to actually use your insurance for therapy

"In-network" shouldn't feel like a puzzle. Here's a plain-language walk-through of copays, deductibles, and what we verify for you before your first visit.

InsuranceGetting started

Finding a therapist is hard enough without insurance adding another wall, so here's how it works, minus the jargon.

What does "in-network" mean?

When a practice is in-network with your plan, they've agreed on set rates with your insurer. You usually pay a copay (a fixed amount per visit) or coinsurance once any deductible is met. We're in-network with Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross, Blue Shield of California, and Carelon.

If we're out-of-network for your plan, we can still help. We'll provide a superbill, an itemized receipt you submit to your insurer for possible reimbursement.

What we verify for you

Before your first visit, we check your benefits so you know exactly where you stand before the first bill ever arrives. We'll tell you:

  • Whether therapy is covered under your plan
  • Your copay or coinsurance
  • Whether a deductible applies, and how much is left on it

The short version

You don't need to become an insurance expert, and you were never supposed to be one. Tell us your plan, and we'll do the legwork. Session lengths and the rest of the money details are on our fees and insurance page.
