Grief & Loss Counseling

Bereavement. Anticipatory Grief. Sudden Loss. Losses Nobody Sees.

Grief doesn’t follow five tidy stages, and it isn’t a problem to be fixed. It needs room, and a person steady enough to hear all of it. The sadness, the anger, the relief you feel guilty about, the jokes you feel worse about.

We sit with every kind of loss: a person, a marriage, your health, a future you had planned on. There’s no timeline here and nobody saying you should be over it by now.

Who it’s for

The newly bereaved and the long-bereaved. People carrying anticipatory grief while someone they love is still here. And the losses that don’t get casseroles: miscarriage, estrangement, a diagnosis, the divorce that was the right call and hurts anyway.

How it works

Mostly this is supportive work at your pace: telling the story as many times as it needs telling, keeping your connection to who or what you lost, and slowly letting life widen around the grief rather than pretending to close it. When grief has tangled with trauma or depression, we treat that too.

Common questions

How long is too long to still be grieving?

There’s no deadline, and most grief needs no treatment at all, just room. Where therapy earns its keep is when grief is still running your whole life years on, or when it arrived tangled with trauma, guilt, or depression that won’t move on its own.

I'm not a crier. Can counseling still do anything for me?

Yes. Grief doesn’t only speak in tears. It shows up as anger, numbness, fog, overwork, and a short fuse with people you love. Counseling works with however yours presents, and nobody here measures progress in crying.

Can I come before the loss actually happens?

Please do. Anticipatory grief is one of the loneliest kinds: while a parent declines, through a terminal diagnosis, in the long goodbye of dementia. Support during it changes how you carry what comes after.

Is grief counseling covered by insurance?

Often, yes, depending on your plan and what you’re experiencing. Tell us your plan when you reach out and we’ll verify what’s covered before your first session.
